Disney Dreamlight Valley has just opened its beta for fans and gamers alike to join this magical virtual world. Available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles as well as PC, many can now see what the game has in store for them.
With a collection of worlds to explore from the Disney and Pixar movies, there are plenty of fan favorite characters who will be ready to greet and help the players through their adventures. But among those available from launch, they look set to each bring something new and fun to the table.
The lovable and innocent mermaid who loves all things related to humans, Ariel soon falls for Prince Eric, sacrificing her voice for legs to walk among the land. And while this may not be her first game nor her best role in one, she does at least give some cool rewards.
While players can unlock some decent costumes from The Little Mermaid and underwater-themed items to decorate with, it can be a bit of a chore to interact with her as she is water-bound while the avatar character can’t access the seas. And even though she can’t transform to have legs to walk on dry land, she can suddenly appear in the avatar designer mode as a secret hidden character.
15 Mother Gothel
The wicked adoptive mother to Rapunzel, Mother Gothel’s role in the movie was greatly expanded from the original fairy tales for Tangled. And apart from Ursula, she is the only other villain to appear in the game’s launch.
Her story does play a role to the movie as anyone who tries to rescue Rapunzel will inadvertently unleash a powerful curse onto the Valley, leading to Mother Gothel needing the help of Merlin the Wizard and Ursula the Sea-Witch. Not also does it open up to the other magical Disney folk forcing to come together, but her selfishness and perfectionism oozes through her dialogue.
One of the greatest villains in the history of Disney animation, Ursula the Sea Witch made a frightening impact on young cinemagoers with her dark magic and wicked schemes in The Little Mermaid. And she is one of the very few villains to currently appear in the game, and might just be the best among them small group of antagonists.
With her series of riddles to solve and quests to complete, players can add Ursula to the town and become her friend. While she may not have much to offer once level ten is reached for friendship, her role in the main story mode is a fun one that tries to differ from what the other characters offer.
12 Donald Duck
Since his debut in 1934, Donald Duck has remained a classic animated character who audiences still enjoy today, especially with his over-the-top angry reactions. And he doesn’t mind expressing his rage in this game either.
Fans of Donald can help him escape the Forest of Valor from Frozen 2and return him to his tugboat, which needs mending, all while Donald quacks angrily about the whole ordeal. But once he’s cooled down, he can be a generous addition as he will give people tokens as rewards, some cool cosmetics for being his friend, and will unlock a quest involving a time capsule.
11 Minnie Mouse
Appearing alongside Mickey Mouse and Pete in Steamboat Willie, Minnie Mouse has seen her fair share of fans over the years. From starring in her own television shows to appearing in a number of video games, it’s safe to say that she is one successful mouse.
In Disney Dreamlight Valley, she plays a vital role in one of the most dramatic and emotional stories as Mickey attempts to bring her back from a nightmarish realm. Considering how sweet she always seems to be, this can only drive some to save her from such a cruel fate and can give out some neat cosmetics for taking the time to rescue her.
Along her journey to restore peace to the oceans, Moana finds Maui, an overconfident Demi-God who joins her quest in this rewatchable musical movie. While he may have unintentionally caused more harm than good, he does make himself useful in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
As the player levels up their friendship with Maui, the pickaxe that he enchanted upon first meeting him can be upgraded to eventually break larger rocks that are needed to access the other areas of Dazzle Beach. And once his friendship level is maxed out, everyone will be rewarded with the Maui statue, standing tall and proud that only the self-loving character can muster.
9 Scrooge McDuck
The wealthy uncle to Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck became a popular name after appearing in the DuckTales shows and in Mickey’s Christmas Carol. And with his love for money, it was no surprise what role he would play in the game.
After rescuing him from the deadly thorns, gamers are able to purchase a number of cosmetic goods from his shop, making him a vital character to interact with for those looking to get busy decorating. But what makes him even more valuable is that players can unlock more items after becoming friends with him, opening up more possible cosmetic items than any other character in the game.
One of Pixar’s most adorable creations, Wall-E is a robot from a future Earth left in ruin by humans, leaving him to clean it up and hopefully bring life back to the planet. And his robotic green fingers will also help people bring in some much-needed crops to their lands if they choose.
If anyone chooses to help Wall-E in his realm, he will eventually visit the Valley that will open up to a very helpful feature. The robot can help rebuild the Garden hidden in the Peaceful Meadow and for those looking to grow crops quickly will absolutely want to befriend him as it will generate random crops each day, making Wall-E a helpful ally that can cut waiting time for certain ingredients.
7 Elsa and Anna
Easily the most popular Disney franchise in years, Frozen became a smash hit with children all over the world, breaking Disney’s old formula with the two movies breaking box office records and a series of charming shorts. And fans will be happy to know that Anna and Elsa can be invited to their towns.
Their story will be satisfactory for fans as it takes place after the events of the second movie and players must reunite Anna with her sister in The Forest of Valor, after which both become accessible for quests once they are saved. As well as offering a fun story, they are also very helpful as Anna can get rid of mushrooms and Elsa can get rid of ice, clearing the path to access more areas of the Valley; and there are many Frozen-themed items to unlock between the both of them too.
The Sword in the Stone may not be everyone’s favorite animated Disney movie, but it sure has some brilliant moments surrounding Arthur and Merlin the Magician. And while the former hasn’t appeared in the game just yet, the latter has and will be the first character everyone will come across.
He may take on the role as the game’s guide, but he is a helpful one as he shows where the necessary tools are and explains the situation the Valley finds itself in. Furthermore, he will offer some magical-themed decorations and customizable items if gamers choose to become his friend.
Easily one of Brad Bird and Pixar’s best movies respectively, Ratatouille tells the story of a rat with a nose for cooking and how his love for food saw him become a celebrated chef in Paris. And as much as he taught Alfredo Linguini how to prepare meals, he can also teach those who unlock him as well.
As cooking is one of the main activities in the game, Remy is easily one of the best characters to assist with this as he can not also give everyone unique ingredients, but can unlock new meals to cook up as well. With this rat by anyone’s side, it might just become another great cooking experience for the Switch.
Introduced in Frozen, Kristoff and his trusty reindeer Sven assists Anna to help find Elsa. But as the movie unfolds, he falls for Anna and her bravery and loyalty, later becoming one of Disney’s best boyfriends.
After players help Kristoff find Donald Duck who was lost in the woods, he can be approached for friendship quests, which are certainly worthwhile for those looking to skip some grinding. Not also can he be added to the Valley for fans of the movie to enjoy, but he can open up a stall that sells a number of materials that will become worthwhile if players get tired of mining.
Known throughout the years for his slapstick comedy, Goofy has remained one of the most iconic of all Disney characters. But when it comes to video games, he has surprisingly also been one of the most useful in games like Kingdom Hearts.
In Disney Dreamlight Valley, he will be more than happy to purchase any unwanted items from anyone, more than willing to get rid of his gold coins. Furthermore, the multiple stalls he operates each have their own unique items that might become useful when crops need to be grown for specific ingredients.
Moana, the 2016 Academy Award nominated animated movie introduced everyone to the heroine of the same name, a princess who sets off on a dangerous quest to restore Te Fiti. And with her experience sailing on the ocean and fishing, the developers of the game knew just what to do with her.
Once fans have unlocked Moana and invited her over to the Valley, she can help rebuild a canoe that, once fixed, she can set off and bring back fish for every thirty minutes. And with the option to upgrade it to hold even more sea creatures, this already helpful character and her unique contribution to the virtual world can become even better.
1 Mickey Mouse
The face of Walt Disney Studios and the founder’s beloved creation, Mickey Mouse remains an icon of animation. But he has seen his fair share of video games too, some of which have gone on to become some of the best in the gaming space.
It’s no surprise to discover that he will be one of the first characters everyone will meet, but it will be worth it if they can help him out. Not also does he help unlock Minnie to join the Valley, but he will reward the player with useful tools and recipes to help progress the game as well as a truly gorgeous fountain if the friendship level with him reaches ten.
